Down to Earth
Spring / Summer 2022
Down to Earth is a generic expression to describe someone or something that is free of pretension. Mother Nature will be the best example. However, she is suffering from global warming

Mother Nature is a personification of nature that focuses on life-giving and nurturing aspect by embodying it. The effects of global warming causes mother nature to face increased temperature, floods, droughts alongside wildfires and tropical storms. Global warming is accelerated by human activity such as burning of coal, oil, fossil fuels, deforestation, oil and chemical spills.
With regards to the effects, I am inspired to portray a collection on rebirth with the concept of harm mother nature is going through. To emphasise on newlife and revival, the style of trees and hands are adopted.
To exhibit the effect of pollutions on prints, I explored in-depth into fingerprints where there are tiny ridges, whorls and valley patterns.
The colour choices are drawn from the tone of earth incorporated with a shade of blue while the bleached effect gave off a softer earthy tone.
With experiment with various type of fabric, quilting cotton was able to achieve the effect of absorbent that i am in pursuit of.
To further enhance my collection, a play with colour and embroidery thread was used to replicate tree textures.
